Accounting software built for the AI era

LedgerMCP started from a simple observation: AI assistants got good enough to do bookkeeping, but no accounting software would let them. So we built the ledger they can actually use.

The observation

Bookkeeping is necessary and nobody wants to do it. For decades the choice was hours of your own evening or hundreds of dollars a month for someone else’s. Then AI assistants got genuinely good at exactly this kind of work: patient, fast, cheap, tireless about receipts.

But the software wouldn’t let them in. Incumbents bolted chat sidebars onto apps built for human clicking: the AI could suggest, summarize, sometimes read. It couldn’t keep the books, because nothing about those ledgers was built to survive an autonomous user.

So we inverted the architecture. LedgerMCP’s ledger was designed from the first migration for an agent at the keyboard: entries that must balance at commit, postings that can never be edited, retries that can never double-post, an audit log that records everything and reverses anything.

Once the ledger protects itself, you can hand the whole toolset to any AI, which is what the built-in MCP server does. The AI does the work; the ledger keeps it honest; you stay in charge.

What we believe

Bring your own AI

We ship no AI and never will. You already pay for Claude or ChatGPT and you already trust it; a house-brand model would be a markup and a second place your data lives. Our job is the ledger.

Safety lives in the database

Prompts drift, models change, apps have bugs. Constraints don’t. Every guarantee we make is enforced in Postgres or it doesn’t get made. Read the security page and hold us to it.

Free must mean free

Unlimited books, all reports, and full agent access are free forever, because it costs us almost nothing. The one real cost, bank connections, is the one paid feature. No ads, no data sales, one-click export, always.

What LedgerMCP is, and deliberately isn’t

It is a full double-entry accounting product: transactions register, journal, chart of accounts, bank feeds, reconciliation, receipts, tags, budgets, and reports, plus the MCP server that lets Claude, ChatGPT, or any agent keep the books directly. Business books and personal finances live in one account; practitioners run whole client rosters on it.

It deliberately isn’t invoicing, payroll, sales tax, or multi-currency software. Those are different products, and pretending otherwise is how tools become slow, expensive, and mediocre at everything. If you need them, we’ll say so plainly: our comparison pages recommend competitors by name where they’re the better fit.

The company

LedgerMCP, LLC is based in Florida, United States. We are small on purpose and build in the open where we can: the tool reference is public, the policies are written in plain language, and the changelog shows up in the product itself. Questions, ideas, or a bug to report: support@ledgermcp.com, or the contact page routes you.

Common questions

What is LedgerMCP in one sentence?

LedgerMCP is free double-entry accounting software with a built-in MCP server, so the AI assistant you already use (Claude or ChatGPT) can keep your books on a ledger it cannot corrupt.

Who is behind LedgerMCP?

LedgerMCP, LLC, a small company based in Florida, United States. Small on purpose: the product stays free because the team and the infrastructure stay lean. support@ledgermcp.com reaches the people who build it.

Why doesn’t LedgerMCP have its own AI?

Because you already have one you trust, and a second AI would just be a markup. Shipping no AI keeps the platform cheap enough to give away, keeps your data out of an extra model, and means the safety story lives where it belongs: in the ledger, not in a prompt.

How does LedgerMCP make money?

Live bank feeds, from $9/mo, pooled across all your books. That is the entire model: no ads, no selling data, no upsell maze. Bank connections are our real marginal cost, so they are the paid feature; everything else is free.

What will LedgerMCP never become?

Software with a built-in AI you didn’t choose, a data business, or a lock-in play. Also not (for now, deliberately): invoicing, payroll, sales tax, or multi-currency. Bookkeeping done exceptionally well beats everything done adequately.
